United Airlines Business Class A320 Mexico City to Los Angeles

United Airlines 293
Mexico City (MEX) – Los Angeles (LAX)
Airbus A320
22 June 2014

Boarding was done on schedule and since I wouldn’t be flying through San Francisco, there wasn’t any delay on any flight. The flight was operated by an Airbus A320, which is my favourite short-medium haul aircraft. The FAs and purser were very warm and friendly and promptly served drinks to each passenger.

This time, they didn’t take drink orders but rather served either water or orange juice on a tray as pre-departure beverages.

We were parked next to a very beautiful German bird 🙂

Legroom was the usual for an A320, slightly more than the B737.

I decided to have the orange juice instead of the water.

We pushed back from the gate 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time and headed for the runway. There were some beautiful views as we were taxiing to the runway.

Departure was literally on time, right to the minute. We were soon in the air and although there were clouds, I still got a beautiful view of Mexico City.

Once we reached 11 thousand metres, the lead FA distributed warm nuts and took drink orders from everyone.

I ordered tea with lemon and sugar and was presented with limes… Apparently they didn’t have lemons, but that does not mean you can substitute them for limes!

After the nuts, the purser went around and asked everyone what they wanted to eat. There were two choices:

  • Chicken with rice and salad (what I had)
  • Beef with rice and salad (which I heard wasn’t good…)

The chicken was delicious, cooked to the right temperature and presented nicely. The sauce was a little too spicy for me but tasted good nonetheless.

I poured some olive oil over the salad and it made it taste much, much better than what it tasted without. Normally I don’t add any kind of ‘topping’ to my salads but this one was just really dry. Even the tomatoes tasted dry.

Warm bread was also distributed, but they only had one kind.

An apple strudel followed the lunch, which wasn’t that good.

After lunch, we were presented with some beautiful views of Baja California and Mexico’s coast.

I mean how much more beautiful can views get from an airplane?!?

The service on United is very attentive and professional, just what I love. Most of the passengers went to sleep after lunch and the FAs gave everyone water and made sure the glass was full. They were constantly looking after us and made sure every passenger had what they needed.

We soon made it to California and started descending to Los Angeles somewhere over the mountains.

From the sky it looked to be a nice and hot day in Los Angeles.

We were soon on the ground and immigration took literally less than 10 minutes. It was my first time using Global Entry and I was a little unprepared for the machine, so it took a picture of me in a horrible way. We did have to wait a little longer for baggage to arrive, but once it came out on the belt, I grabbed it and headed for the exit. I only had a two hour connection in Los Angeles so I didn’t know if I was going to make it or not, but I did. I had plenty of time, the whole process from landing to clearing immigration to sitting in the lounge took 30 minutes. I can’t believe how much time I’ve saved by having elite status and Global Entry over the last couple of months. I am literally so thankful that I do not have to wait in long queues, this is how travelling should really be!
